Wanindu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka's all-time leading T20I wicket-taker with over 100 scalps, is renowned for his exceptional leg-spin and all-round capabilities. The only Sri Lankan to claim a hat-trick in a T20 World Cup, he also made a sensational ODI debut in 2017 with a hat-trick against Zimbabwe. Initially a pacer, he transitioned to spin under coach Lanka de Silva, making an impact at the 2016 U-19 World Cup and in domestic cricket. Since his T20I debut in 2019, Hasaranga has delivered match-winning performances, including a series-clinching 4/9 against India in 2021. He was the highest wicket-taker in the 2021 T20 World Cup with 16 dismissals and played a key role in Sri Lanka’s 2022 Asia Cup triumph, earning back-to-back selections in the ICC Men's T20I Team of the Year (2021, 2022). His IPL stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2021 to 2023 saw him take 35 wickets in 26 matches, highlighted by a stunning 5/18 against SRH in IPL 2022. For IPL 2025, Hasaranga will don the Rajasthan Royals jersey after being acquired for INR 5.25 crore. His wicket-taking prowess and batting skills lower down the order will be instrumental in strengthening RR’s squad.
