TATA IPL 2025 Match 35, GT vs DC - Match Report
19 Apr, 2025
Gujarat Titans (GT) earned the top spot on the points table with an statement seven-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in Match 35 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. GT came up with an impressive performance with the bat in their chase of 204, inspired by Jos Buttler's unbeaten 97, as yet another last-over thriller saw GT over the line with four balls to spare.
Buttler's knock was supported by Sherfane Rutherford's 34-ball 43 and Sai Sudharsan's 21-ball 36, before Rahul Tewatia stepped up when 10 were needed off the last over, hitting a six and four to seal the win.

After GT captain Shubman Gill decided to field first after winning the toss, Abishek Porel got DC off to a strong start with 16 runs off Mohd. Siraj in the first over. But Porel’s stay was cut short soon after as he hit one straight to Siraj at mid-on off Arshad Khan’s bowling in the second over.
KL Rahul took over from Porel and took the attack to GT and DC brought up their fifty in four overs.
Rahul looked in ominous form at 28 off 13 deliveries, before his Karnataka teammate Prasidh Krishna trapped him in front with a superb yorker. In another momentum swing, Karun Nair switched gears to give DC their best powerplay score of the season at 73/2 before adding more. However, Krishna came back to get another crucial wicket as Nair walked back for 31(18).
With 105/3 at the halfway mark, captain Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs put up a 53-run stand and took the attack to Rashid Khan with a few sixes, and the visitors had a good foundation for the slog overs at 150/4 after 15 overs.

Despite being hit for a couple of sixes in his final over, Krishna was comfortably the pick of GT’s bowling effort with 4/41 and he also bagged the Purple Cap in the process. The last of his wickets came courtesy of a stunning catch from Jos Buttler.

Meanwhile, yet another important blitz from Ashutosh Sharma (37 off 19) propelled DC to 203/8 after 20 overs.
GT lost skipper Gill early in the run chase with Karun Nair producing a direct-hit runout to catch Gill short in the second over.

Unfazed by the early setback, Sai Sudharsan and Buttler put the home side in a very strong position with a flurry of boundaries en route to a 60-run stand, and GT pushed forward with 73/1 after 7 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav picked up his 12th wicket of TATA IPL 2025 with the key scalp of Sudharsan (36 off 21). However, Buttler showed no signs of slowing down and brought up his third fifty of the season off 32 deliveries. After a cautious start, Sherfane Rutherford swiftly changed gears, and another 50-run partnership brought the equation down to 76 to get off seven overs.

Buttler smashed five boundaries off Mitchell Starc's 15th over, thus putting GT in a very strong position, before ending up with a 54-ball 97*. Rutherford's dismissal kept DC in the game and brought the equation down to 10 to win off the final over. Mitchell Starc was again tasked with DC's defence, but Tewatia came up trumps with a six and four off the first two deliveries to win the match for the hosts.
