Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a commanding 8-wicket win over Punjab Kings in a high-scoring thriller at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Match 27 of the TATA IPL 2025. The night belonged entirely to Abhishek Sharma, who produced a breathtaking knock of 141 off just 55 deliveries — a record-breaking innings that headlined one of the most memorable run-chases in IPL history. He was ably supported by Travis Head, who played the perfect foil with a blazing 66 off 37 balls.

Chasing a mammoth 246, Sunrisers Hyderabad put on a batting masterclass, powered by a record-breaking opening partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

From the very first over, the intent was clear. The ‘Travi-Shek’ duo came out all guns blazing, bringing up a 50-run stand inside just 3 overs — SRH’s first fifty-run opening partnership this season. A brief scare emerged when Abhishek was caught at third man off Yash Thakur, but fortune favoured the brave as it turned out to be a no-ball. What followed was absolute carnage.

SRH rocketed to 83/0 at the end of the powerplay. Abhishek raced to his fifty in just 16 deliveries — the fastest-ever by a Sunrisers batter. Head wasn’t far behind, reaching his second half-century of the season with two towering sixes off Glenn Maxwell. Their partnership swelled to 171 — the highest of IPL 2025 — before Head departed for a blistering 66 off 37 balls, dismissed by Chahal.

Abhishek, however, was in a league of his own. He brought up his maiden IPL century in just 40 balls, the fastest in Hyderabad and against Punjab. His strokeplay was elegant yet ruthless, dismantling the PBKS attack with precision. He went on to score a sensational 141 off just 55 balls, laced with 14 boundaries and 10 sixes — breaking KL Rahul’s record for the highest score by an Indian in IPL history and becoming the third-highest overall.

SRH comfortably crossed the finish line with 9 balls to spare, scripting the highest successful run-chase in IPL history — a night that will be remembered for Abhishek Sharma’s brilliance and a fearless batting display from the openers. Abhishek was adjudged the Player of the Match for his innings for the ages.

Opting to bat first, Punjab Kings got off to a blazing start. Prabhsimran Singh set the tone with a hat-trick of boundaries off Mohammed Shami in the first over, while Priyansh Arya, fresh off a century in the previous game, continued in the same vein. He welcomed Pat Cummins with a six and a four, then hammered two successive sixes off Shami.

Punjab raced to their fastest fifty-plus opening stand of the season, reaching the landmark in just the third over. However, Harshal Patel pulled things back momentarily for SRH, dismissing Arya for a fiery 36 off 13.

Captain Shreyas Iyer joined Prabhsimran to sustain the aggression, guiding PBKS to a thunderous 89/1 at the end of the powerplay—their second-highest in IPL history. Debutant Eshan Malinga then struck in his first over, removing Prabhsimran for a brisk 42 from 23 balls.

Shreyas found a stable partner in Nehal Wadhera, and the duo rotated strike smartly, punctuated with powerful strokes. Shreyas soon raced to a 22-ball half-century—his quickest in the IPL. SRH clawed back with quick wickets: Eshan’s yorker removed Wadhera (27), and Harshal dismissed Shashank Singh.

Shreyas responded with a flurry of boundaries before falling for a stunning 82 off 36. Harshal ended with 4/42, including Maxwell’s scalp. Marcus Stoinis provided a thrilling finish, smashing four sixes off Shami in the final over to remain unbeaten on 34 off 11, propelling PBKS to a mammoth 245/6.
