TATA IPL 2025 Match 02 , SRH v RR - Match Report

Hyderabad witnessed batting carnage in Match 2 of TATA IPL 2025. Sunrisers Hyderabad kicked off their campaign in emphatic fashion, registering a commanding 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in a high-octane run-fest at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The win was powered by a breathtaking century from Ishan Kishan, whose unbeaten 106* was the cornerstone of SRH’s batting onslaught.

Kishan’s terrific ton was complemented by an explosive top-order show, with Travis Head’s dynamic 67 off 37, Heinrich Klaasen’s fiery 32 off 14, Nitish Reddy’s impactful 30 off 15, and Abhishek Sharma’s rapid 24 off 11 ensuring relentless pressure on the Royals’ bowlers. Their combined firepower propelled SRH to a staggering 286/6—the second-highest team total in IPL history—setting the stage for a resounding victory.

Having asked to bat first, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma wasted no time, resuming their explosive partnership from last season. Abhishek set the tone with a fiery 24 off 11, including three consecutive boundaries off Fazalhaq Farooqi. Head then took charge, dismantling RR’s attack with effortless stroke play. He welcomed Jofra Archer’s IPL return with a brutal 24-run over, including a monstrous 105m six over square leg. By the end of the powerplay, SRH had rocketed to 94/1.

Ishan Kishan then joined Head in the carnage. Head scored a scintillating 67 off 31 set the stage for what was to come. Making his SRH debut, the left-hander  embraced the team’s fearless approach, bringing up his fifty in just 25 balls with a towering six over deep cover. He suited extremely well to the aggressive SRH mentality.

As his confidence soared, he turned ruthless, hammering his maiden IPL century—an unbeaten 106 off 47 balls, laced with 11 fours and 6 sixes. Late fireworks from Nitish Reddy (30 off 15) and Heinrich Klaasen (32 off 14) ensured SRH etched their name in the record books yet again by scoring the second-highest team total in IPL history.

Chasing a daunting 288, Rajasthan Royals found themselves in early trouble as Simarjeet Singh sent shockwaves through the top order, removing both Yashasvi Jaiswal and stand-in skipper Riyan Parag in the second over. The Royals were further dented when Nitish Rana departed, leaving them reeling.

But cometh the hour, cometh the men—Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel rose to the occasion, stitching together a crucial 111-run partnership that reignited RR’s hopes. Samson was at his imperious best, timing the ball exquisitely, while Jurel turned heads with his fearless strokeplay, dispatching the SRH bowlers to all corners. By the end of the powerplay, the Royals had counterpunched their way to 77/3, keeping the chase alive.

Just when Samson looked set to steer the ship deep into the chase, Harshal Patel struck a decisive blow, sending the Royals’ skipper back after a well-crafted 66 off 37 balls. Jurel, however, continued to launch a counterattack, unleashing a flurry of audacious strokes. His valiant knock of 70 off just 35 deliveries kept RR in the hunt, but Adam Zampa's crucial breakthrough saw the youngster depart, tilting the momentum back in SRH’s favor.

Despite the daunting equation, the Royals refused to throw in the towel. The lower order delivered a late flourish, with Shubham Dubey (34* off 11) and Shimron Hetmyer (42 off 23) injecting fresh life into the chase with their clean striking. Their fightback ensured RR finished at 242/6—a valiant effort that ultimately fell short, but one that showcased the Royals’ never-say-die spirit.
