Royal Challengers Bengaluru have one foot firmly in history as they marched into the IPL 2025 Final with a crushing 8-wicket win over Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur. In a night dominated by their bowlers and capped off by Phil Salt’s blazing 56 off 27*, RCB showcased ruthless precision, putting in a complete performance when it mattered the most.

Batting first after being put in, Punjab Kings were blown away for just 101 in 14.1 overs. The collapse began early—Josh Hazlewood (3/21) and Suyash Sharma (3/17) wreaked havoc with disciplined lines and clever variations. Hazlewood removed the dangerous Inglis and Iyer in quick succession, while Suyash spun a web in the middle overs, picking up Stoinis, Shashank, and Musheer in a damaging spell. Only Stoinis (26 off 17) offered any resistance as wickets fell like dominoes.

Chasing 102 under pressure in a high-stakes game, RCB’s opening pair went on the attack. Phil Salt, cool and clinical, smashed 6 fours and 3 sixes en route to a match-winning half-century. Kohli (12) and Mayank Agarwal (19) played supporting cameos, while skipper Rajat Patidar finished it in style with a six.

Shreyas Iyer | Punjab Kings Captain:
" It's not a game to forget, but we need to go back to the drawing board and assess everything. We need to start reading the wicket better. We’ve lost too many wickets in tandem, and we have a lot to study once we go back.I’m not doubting my decisions, honestly. We did everything we could in terms of planning. We couldn’t execute in the first innings when it came to scoring runs. I can't blame the bowlers, as it was such a low total to defend. We need to focus more on our batting, especially on wickets like this.In all the games we've played here, there has been some variable bounce, but that’s no excuse. We are professionals, and we need to bat according to the situation and live up to it. We may have lost the battle, but not the war."

Rajat Patidar | Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain:
"We were very clear with our bowling plans. Our fast bowlers used the surface well, and the way Suyash bowled with his line and length was incredible. As a captain, I’m very clear on his strengths. His strength is to bowl in line with the stumps, and his googly is very hard to pick. I don’t want to confuse him, and we don’t mind him conceding a few runs. The way he’s been batting in most matches, giving us such great starts, it's a dream to watch him from the dugout. I'm a huge fan of him. I want to thank the RCB fans. Wherever we go, whether it's Chinnaswamy or elsewhere, we feel at home. We all love you. Just one more game and let's celebrate together."

Suyash Sharma | Player of the Match:
" I'm happy with my performance, and everyone is pleased for me. The coaches have given me a clear role: to hit the stumps, whether it's with googlies, leg spinners, or flippers. Whatever I bowl, it should end up on the stumps. The googly is my stock ball, and the wicket gave me some assistance, which made it tough for the batters to pick them. We’ll celebrate hard on June 3rd. Thank you."

Two franchises haunted by the same ghost - never winning it all - are about to go to war in the most pressure-packed IPL match of the year. Punjab and Bengaluru finished dead even after 14 gruelling league games, separated only by decimal points that now seem like mountains.

Shreyas Iyer's Punjab revolution has been brewing all season. Young gun Priyansh Arya has been destroying bowling attacks at a ridiculous strike rate, while the captain himself has been leading from the front with crossing 500 runs. But can they handle the pressure when it truly matters?

Across the battlefield, Virat Kohli's hunger burns brighter than ever. The master has crafted 602 runs this season, and here's the scary part - every single time he's reached fifty, Bangalore have walked away victorious. Eight fifties, eight wins. That's not luck, that's destiny calling.

The Mullanpur cauldron has been unpredictable all season - teams have folded for just 111 or exploded to 219 on the same strip of earth. But here's what history whispers: bat first, win the war. The team setting the target three out of four times has claimed victory.

Thirty-five battles between these warriors are separated by just one win. This isn't just cricket anymore - it's about who wants that maiden title more when the lights are brightest and the stakes couldn't be higher. One team advances to immortality. The other gets a second chance to dream again.

Pitch Report by Deep Dasgupta:
"Before we get into the specifics of the pitch, let's look at the dimensions. To my right, it's 62M, to my left it's 65M, and straight down the ground, it's 73M. It's a deceptively large venue, though it doesn’t always seem that way.As for the pitch, it has been used twice before this season. The night game produced a 200+ total, while the day game saw a 150+ score. Looking at the pitch now, there's quite a bit of grass on it, which suggests the ball will come onto the bat nicely. While the fast bowlers might find some resistance in the grass, I don't expect it to do much. Near the stumps, there's less grass, which should give the spinners some purchase, and the pitch might slow down a bit as the game progresses.Regarding dew, there’s a bit of moisture in the air, and we might see some dew come into play. It's worth noting that out of the four games played here, three were won by the team batting first. The only time a chasing team won was during an afternoon game. With the First Qualifier being such an important game, it'll be interesting to see what the captains choose to do when they win the toss."
