At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Punjab Kings posted a challenging total of 206 for 8 in their 20 overs, setting up an exciting contest against Delhi Capitals. Captain Shreyas Iyer led the charge with a composed 53 off 34 balls, featuring well-timed boundaries and crucial runs to steady the innings. Marcus Stoinis provided a late surge, smashing 44 runs off just 16 balls with a flurry of fours and sixes. Josh Inglis and Prabhsimran Singh gave Punjab a brisk start, scoring 32 and 28 respectively, though wickets fell regularly throughout the innings.
Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack was spearheaded by Mustafizur Rahman, who picked up three wickets for 33 runs, supported by Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam who claimed two wickets each. Despite some expensive overs in the final stages, Punjab managed to put up a formidable total.
In reply, Delhi got off to a strong start with KL Rahul scoring 35 off 21 and Faf du Plessis contributing 23 off 15, putting pressure on Punjab’s bowlers. Karun Nair’s 44 and an explosive unbeaten 58 by Sameer Rizvi kept the chase alive. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Delhi’s middle order held firm, and Rizvi’s powerful hitting ensured they reached the target with three balls to spare.
Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings Captain):
"It was a fantastic score with some odd and variable bounce, definitely above par. We weren’t disciplined enough with our lengths and didn’t overuse the bouncer. We struggled to hit the hard length. This tournament is bigger than the Premier League—you have to stay positive and calm. We’ll come back fresh, focus on the present, and go back to the drawing board with stronger plans. My finger should be fine for the next game."
Faf du Plessis:(Delhi Capitals Captain)
"Finishing in the top five was a fair reflection, though we aimed for the top four. Where the campaign went wrong is still a mystery we’ve discussed in the dressing room—confidence, lack of runs at crucial moments. Winning often comes down to small margins, those key 5-6 overs in batting and bowling. The IPL is about young talent and domestic players; Vippy was fantastic for us. It’s rare to have a legspinner who’s also an all-rounder. A couple of batters in our lineup are still learning and improving—they have a bright future ahead."
Sameer Rizvi (Player of the Match):
"It feels really good. I've worked hard in the nets over the past 2-3 months and received valuable feedback from the coaches. Before this innings, I wasn't confident about performing well in the IPL, but now I believe I can play well and help win games for my team. When I came out to bat, we needed over 100 runs in 50-60 balls, so I first assessed how the pitch was playing, took 4-5 balls to settle in, and then played my shots. The wicket looked good, which helped."
Hello everyone and welcome to live coverage from the iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, where Punjab Kings face off against Delhi Capitals in Match 66 of TATA IPL 2025. The stakes are clear – PBKS, flying high with 17 points, are gunning to cement their top-two finish, while DC, mathematically out of the playoff race, aim to close out their campaign with pride and purpose.
For Punjab, it’s been a season to remember. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the franchise has reached the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The opening duo of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya has been sensational – notching up 425 runs combined, striking at 166, with three 30+ stands, a fifty-run stand, and a century partnership to their name. Shreyas himself has led with the bat, crossing the 400-run mark, anchoring innings and finishing games. Their bowling, led by the tall Marco Jansen, the crafty Yuzvendra Chahal, and the fiery Arshdeep Singh, has been impactful throughout the season.
For Delhi Capitals, it’s about finishing strong. KL Rahul and Axar Patel have carried the team in patches, with Axar contributing across departments. Kuldeep Yadav remains their trump card in the middle overs, combining control with wicket-taking ability. But DC’s pace attack has lacked bite, often leaking runs under pressure.
So, will PBKS ride their wave of form and push towards a top-two spot? Or can DC spoil the party and bow out with a statement win? Stay tuned – this promises to be a cracking contest!
IPL Stats at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in 2025:
Pitch Report:
"We’re on pitch number four today, with side boundaries measuring 69 and 62 metres. The outfield is pristine and quick. There's a bit of grass on the surface—not enough to aid seamers, but just to hold the pitch together under the scorching heat. The breeze across the ground helps a bit with the conditions. Overall, it's expected to be a good, high-scoring wicket."
Toss Update: DC won the toss and elected to field first!
Faf du Plessis (DC Captain):
"We will have a bowl first. Conditions are 50-50 but the team composition with an extra batter suits a chase. It's been a roller coaster—started well, but lost our way. In the last game, we played well for 17 overs and then lost focus. We're now aiming for the fifth spot after missing our top-four goal."
Shreyas Iyer (PBKS Captain):
"Definitely happy faces, but I'm not fully satisfied yet. We need to build momentum and keep seizing every chance. Everyone’s contributing and that's a good sign. It's job half done. Inglis and Stoinis return to the XI."
