In one of the most commanding chases in IPL history, Gujarat Titans stormed to a stunning 10-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, hunting down a stiff 200-run target in just 19 overs.Chasing 200, Sai Sudharsan (108* off 61) and Shubman Gill (93* off 53) put on an unbeaten 205-run opening stand, demolishing the DC bowling with clinical precision. Sudharsan brought up his second IPL century in style, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes, while Gill played the perfect second fiddle with 3 boundaries and a monstrous 7 sixes. The duo never allowed Delhi into the contest once the powerplay was negotiated.Earlier, KL Rahul anchored DC’s innings with a sensational 112 off 65*, hitting 14 fours and 4 sixes. Cameos from Axar Patel (25 off 16) and Tristan Stubbs (21 off 10)* lifted DC to 199/3. But their bowling, lacking bite without Starc, was blown away by Gujarat’s opening duo. This win propels GT to 18 points, sealing their playoff spot in style, while DC’s campaign now hangs by a thread, needing a miracle in the final fixtures.
Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals Captain):
"The way they batted without losing wickets made things easier for them, and the conditions definitely eased out for batting. We felt it was a par score judging by how the pitch behaved during the powerplay, and KL finishing it off confirmed that. The bowlers gave it their all, but it just wasn’t our night. A big positive has been our batting in the last couple of games, but we need to improve both fielding and bowling, especially during the powerplay. In the second innings, the ball was coming onto the bat nicely, and spinners didn’t get much help. It’s always harder to stop a set batter."
Shubman Gill (GT Captain):
"It’s a great feeling to secure qualification, but we still have two key games ahead and it’s important to carry momentum into the playoffs. As a captain, I try to think like a batter while I’m out there. Last year taught me a lot, especially how to manage the game in the backend. We used the break well—went back to practice and reflected, especially on our below-par fielding. Sai Sudharsan has been in great form, consistently converting starts. We focus on finishing games ourselves, not leaving it to others because on tricky pitches, pressure builds quickly with a couple of wickets. We felt we gave away 10-15 extra runs but their batters played well. As for the break—I was actually a bit sick, so it helped me recover too."
Sai Sudharsan (Player of the Match):
"It feels great to contribute in a winning cause. I’ve missed out a few times this season, and during the break, I was thinking a lot about that. Glad it paid off today. Between overs 7 to 10, they bowled well and we lost momentum, but we stayed calm and took the game deep. We picked up the pace in overs 12-13. Earlier, I was getting out playing risky shots, but now I’ve become more aware of the matchups and believed in myself more. Mentally, I’ve improved even if my batting hasn’t changed much technically. I’m working on playing spinners better and on my finishing after the 15th over. The understanding with Shubman is great—we keep each other sharp, especially while running between the wickets."
Welcome to a red-hot night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals lock horns in a crunch-time contest that could define their IPL 2025 campaigns. Gujarat, need just one more win to book their playoff ticket, while Delhi, on the ropes at fifth, must win all remaining games to keep their faint hopes alive.
GT have ridden on the calm brilliance of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan—both past 500 runs this season—and with Buttler lurking, they boast one of the tournament’s most explosive top orders. With Rashid Khan orchestrating the middle overs and Prasidh Krishna steaming in at the death, the Titans look balanced and battle-ready.
But don’t count DC out. KL Rahul has been steady at the top, and the spin duo of Kuldeep and Axar will relish a slowing Delhi pitch under lights. The toss could tilt the tide—dew, chasing trends, and powerplay momentum all in play. Expect a gripping duel under the capital’s heat, where cool heads and crafty spin could decide the victor.
Let the fireworks begin in Delhi!
Pitch Report – Graeme Swann & Matthew Hayden
It’s a hot evening in Delhi with no rain and no wind, making for ideal playing conditions. The ground is on the smaller side with boundaries measuring 58m, 66m, and 71m. The pitch has been used before and looks very dry, likely to offer some grip to the spinners in the middle overs. As Hayden notes, this is still a high-scoring venue, with an average first innings score of 216 and 200+ totals in 8 out of the last 10 games. Expect another run-fest, especially if a team bats first.
