In Match 54 of the TATA IPL 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered a commanding 37-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. After being put into bat first, PBKS posted a formidable total of 236 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with a scintillating 91 off 48 balls, including six fours and seven sixes. Captain Shreyas Iyer contributed a brisk 45, while Josh Inglis and Shashank Singh added valuable runs to bolster the innings. For LSG, Digvesh Singh Rathi was the standout bowler, claiming two wickets.
In response, LSG's chase faltered early, with Arshdeep Singh dismantling the top order by removing Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran in quick succession. Despite a resilient 74 off 40 balls from Ayush Badoni and a rapid 45 from Abdul Samad, LSG managed 199 for 7, falling short of the target. Azmatullah Omarzai and Yuzvendra Chahal also made significant contributions with the ball, each taking crucial wickets.
This victory propels PBKS to second place on the points table, enhancing their playoff prospects, while LSG faces increased pressure to secure wins in their remaining matches to stay in contention.
Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants Captain):
"Conceding that many runs really hurt us. Dropping crucial catches at key moments cost us badly. We expected more assistance from the surface, but we didn’t read the lengths early on, and that set us back. That’s how the game goes sometimes. The dream is still alive. If we can win our next three games, we can turn things around. When the top order is in form, it makes sense they get more time. But we can’t expect them to do all the heavy lifting every time. We must learn to take the game deep as a unit."
Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings Captain):
"We're elated. Everyone stepped up at the right time and contributed brilliantly. Prabh’s performance today was outstanding—every shot he played was a delight to watch. Honestly, I’m glad I wasn’t aware of the records or milestones—I just focused on winning the match, and I’m proud we got the job done. We've had a bit of luck, but that luck has come from the hard work being put in behind the scenes. Yes, the execution from everyone today was top-notch. The only area where we still need to improve is fielding awareness and movement—we need to tighten up there. Going forward, it’s all about backing ourselves and playing with a positive mindset. For us, the result that matters is winning."
Prabhsimran Singh (Player of the Match):
"Thank you, sir—appreciate it.
This was a special knock for me, but more importantly, those two points mean a lot to the team. I’m glad I could contribute in a winning cause. After the dropped catch, I was already in and had scored 20–25 runs. I knew I had to capitalise on that chance and make it count. We took our time to assess the pitch, and once we understood it, we knew a score above 200 was par. We’re all playing according to the demands of the situation. If you look at our batting unit, everyone adjusts accordingly. And thankfully, in each game, one or two of us steps up to deliver."

VENUE STATS:
Teams have opted to chase in all the 4 matches played at this ground since 2023, but the teams batting first have won 3 of those games. The average 1st innings score here since 2023 is 201, with the last game played here in IPL 2024 saw RCB post a mammoth 241 on board.
PITCH REPORT | Aaron Finch:
"We’ve got 62 meters on one side and 68 meters on the other — definitely not a big ground. The average total in evening matches here is over 200, so expect a high-scoring contest. The pitch has been under covers for a couple of days and shows some variation in colour, with patches that look noticeably abrasive. And with cloud cover around, dew is unlikely to be a major factor. That means bowlers — especially the spinners — will have just enough assistance to stay in the game."
TOSS:
Rishabh Pant has called it right at the toss and Lucknow will field first!
