What a blockbuster at the Arun Jaitley Stadium! In a match that swung like a pendulum, Kolkata Knight Riders held their nerve to clinch a 14-run win over Delhi Capitals, defending 205 with grit, guile, and some magic from their senior pros.

Put into bat, KKR’s top order lit up the evening – Gurbaz’s electric 26 off 12, Narine’s fearless 27, and a composed 44 from young Angkrish Raghuvanshi laid the platform. Later, Rinku (36) and Russell’s cameo pushed KKR to a formidable 204/9, despite Starc’s triple strike and Axar’s control (4-0-27-2).

DC began their chase in a flash but soon stumbled. Faf du Plessis fought a lone battle, scoring a fine 62 off 45, and skipper Axar Patel smashed 43 off 23 to keep hopes alive. But Sunil Narine’s clutch spell (3/29) turned the game on its head.

Vipraj Nigam’s 38 off 19 injected late drama, but DC fell short at 190/9.

A crucial win for KKR, and Narine, leading in Rahane’s absence in the last stages of the match, proved why he’s one of IPL’s smartest minds. Capitals will rue missed chances, but take nothing away from Kolkata’s spirited fight!

Axar Patel | DC Captain:
"I think considering the way the wicket played, we didn’t bowl well in the powerplay and ended up conceding 15–20 extra runs. While chasing, our calculations weren’t up to the mark, and I believe the match turned on its head with two to three soft dismissals. That said, I’m pleased with how we fought back after a poor start with the ball. We managed to restrict them to a chaseable total, which was a positive takeaway. In the second innings, a couple of batters didn’t contribute much, but the others stepped up and covered that gap. We were just a couple of big hits away from securing those two points. We’ve lost a few close games this season, and in such situations, it’s important to stay calm when you're out there in the middle. When Vipraj was scoring, we still had hope. I felt that if Ashu had supported him at the other end, it could’ve reminded us of our comeback in the first game against LSG. But that’s how the game goes. Still, full credit to Vipraj—he bowled really well and played a solid knock. As for my injury, when I tried stopping the ball, my hand dragged on the surface and I scraped the skin. So whenever the bat brushed against that area, it was painful. The good part is we now have a 3–4 day break before our next match against SRH, and hopefully I’ll be fully recovered by then."

Ajinkya Rahane | KKR Captain:
"I think I’ll be okay—nothing too serious. After the 13th over, when Sunil bowled those two crucial overs and picked up a couple of wickets, the game really swung in our favour. They lost quick wickets, and that was the turning point. We felt that 204 was a good total on that wicket, but in hindsight, we were probably 15 runs short. Still, as a batting unit, we were going well. And as a fielding unit, when the opposition is chasing 205, you’re always just one or two wickets away from getting control.Sunil bowled brilliantly, and that one over from Russell, plus Anukul Roy’s contribution, were all important. We went with Anukul because historically, left-arm spinners have done well here, so we backed that call.As I mentioned at the toss, it’s one game at a time for us—we don’t want to think too far ahead. That’s always been the messaging. What’s in the past is in the past; we want to take confidence from this win and move forward."

Sunil Narine | Player of the Match:
"It was a total team effort. The way we started with Gurbaz, and then Angki [Raghuvanshi] and Rinku carried it forward, was excellent. I still back myself to come in and deliver for the team. Some games you start well and fade later, and in some, you begin slow but finish strong. I enjoyed all the wickets—each one is crucial, and the more you get, the better it is for the team.About that direct hit—I'm not the greatest fielder, but it was good to get a run-out. Just pick up and throw the ball as hard as you can! What keeps me going is self-pride. I always want to give the captain the option of using me in any situation. If you want to be that kind of player, you’ve got to keep up the hard work, even when there’s no training."

Tonight at the buzzing Arun Jaitley Stadium, it’s Delhi Capitals  vs Kolkata Knight Riders  — a high-stakes IPL 2025 clash brimming with drama! Delhi cling to playoff hopes, KKR fight to survive — it’s not just a match, it’s redemption on the line! The Delhi pitch plays tricks — batters feast early, but as the night deepens, spinners spin webs. KL Rahul, Delhi’s anchor with 364 runs, faces Varun Chakaravarthy’s bag of tricks. Axar Patel marshals the spin and middle order, while Mitchell Starc seeks a fiery redemption spell after a few tough outings. For KKR, Ajinkya Rahane’s classical elegance must make way for fireworks; Sunil Narine could be pushed up to trigger chaos. Dre Russ lurks, the game-changer KKR desperately need. Nostalgia sweeps through with Rishabh Pant watching from the dugout. It’s a battle of spin vs pace too — Kuldeep’s guile against Harshit Rana’s raw speed. History? KKR lead overall, but Delhi’s recent edge and home turf advantage tilt the scales. Still, T20 is a cruel game — one Russell blitz or a Narine special and the script flips! Buckle up, folks — this is a pressure-cooker waiting to blow!

Head to Head :

Pitch Report | Ian Bishop and Nick Knight:
"It feels nice and wonderful climatically out here in the middle of the Arun Jaitley Stadium. It's not too hot and it's not too cool. We are standing on Pitch Number 5 for this game—the same surface where that Super Over was played with 188 playing 188. Talking about the dimensions, it’s 63 meters to my right, 62 meters to my left, and 67 meters straight down the ground. As far as the outfield is concerned, the grass is very well cut, but more importantly, we want to understand this 22-yards. This pitch looks a bit more compact and has a bit of sheen on it, suggesting it will hold together a little more. I think this surface won't heavily bring spinners like Narine and Chakaravarthy into play. We shouldn’t be far off the score we saw against Rajasthan Royals. It's not a belter by any means, but when you compare it to the surface that was used against RCB and MI, this one looks significantly better."
