On a high-octane night in Ahmedabad, Jos Buttler produced a masterclass for the ages, powering Gujarat Titans to a record 204-run chase against Delhi Capitals in Match 47 of IPL 2025. Buttler remained unbeaten on 97 off 54 balls, with Rahul Tewatia applying the final touches in typical ice-cold style.

DC were off to a flier, thanks to Abishek Porel’s fiery 18 (9) and KL Rahul’s explosive 28 (14). Karun Nair continued his resurgence with a quick 31, while skipper Axar Patel held the innings together with 39 (32). A late blitz from Ashutosh Sharma (37 off 19) catapulted DC past the 200-mark.

But the star with the ball was Prasidh Krishna, who continued his golden season, finishing with 4/41, including the key wickets of Rahul, Axar, and Nair. Despite a few costly overs from Siraj and Arshad, GT managed to restrict the death overs just enough to stay in the hunt.

Chasing 204, GT lost Gill early to a direct hit from Nair, but the innings belonged to Jos Buttler. He went from elegant to explosive, mixing finesse with firepower as he clobbered 11 fours and 4 sixes en route to an unbeaten 97 (54).

Sai Sudharsan (36 off 21) gave the early momentum, while Sherfane Rutherford (43 off 34) matched Buttler shot for shot in the middle overs. DC’s bowlers had no answers under pressure, with Starc leaking 49 runs in just 3.2 overs.

Just when things looked tight, Tewatia walked in and did what Tewatia does best — a six and a four off Starc in the final over to seal the deal.

Axar Patel | Delhi Capitals Captain:
"I think we were 10–15 runs short, and in the end, that made the difference.Every time we tried to accelerate, we lost wickets and couldn’t build lasting partnerships. We needed to find a few more boundaries.I thought our bowlers did a really good job, but some missed chances in the field—dropped catches and small lapses—also cost us.No need to overthink it. These were small moments—just one or two hits or tighter fielding decisions—and we could’ve turned it around. We just need to avoid repeating those mistakes."

Shubman Gill | Gujarat Titans Captain:
"The way we pulled things back with the ball was impressive. At one stage, it looked like they’d get 230–240, but our bowlers stepped up and brought us back into the contest. We’ve done well chasing throughout the tournament. Even in the last game chasing 245, we stayed in the game right till the end. With Axar still at the crease, we chose to stick with pace to keep things tight and avoid giving momentum away.Personally, it was a disappointing way to get out, but there are plenty of matches left, and I’ll look to bounce back. The way Buttler and Rutherford batted was incredible. They rotated strike well and picked the right moments to attack. Their execution was spot on.We’ve got back-to-back matches now—today and then at Eden. If we can win both, we’ll be in a strong position on the points table."

Jos Buttler | Player of the Match:
"Really pleased to come away with two points and a win. It was a beautiful pitch to bat on, and we picked our moments well, building good partnerships along the way.The heat was intense—it really hits you out there. You don’t realize how draining it can be, but it’s part of the challenge. You've got to stay fit and perform under pressure, even in tough conditions.I’ve not kept that well in the last six games, so I was eager to improve. Felt nice to take that catch—it gives you a bit of confidence. It’s been a pleasure. He’s got serious power—can hit sixes from nowhere. That over against Mohit, where he hit two sixes, swung momentum our way.
Of course, you want to get a century, but the main thing is winning the game. I had my chances but couldn’t convert. I told Rahul not to worry about me—we needed to finish the match. He’s done it many times before, calm under pressure and finding the fence from ball one."

Pitch Report – Daren Ganga & Michael Clarke

"It’s hot and steamy here in Ahmedabad as we gear up for another exciting clash. We’re playing on Pitch Number 6, and in terms of dimensions—it’s 64 meters to my right, 69 meters to the left, and 73 meters straight down the ground.Watch out for those shorter pockets behind square—they could play a big role today. This very pitch has hosted all three matches this season, and the average first innings score is a whopping 219. What’s more, all teams batting first have gone on to win.I reckon we’re going to see much of the same again today. This is a beautiful-looking wicket—there’s a nice, even covering of grass, but it’s also rock hard. The light roller’s been used, and it looks like an absolute belter of a batting pitch. I fully expect the captain winning the toss to bat first, put runs on the board, and try to build pressure while defendingThe pitch has been a standout this season—true bounce, consistent pace—and it’s likely to remain the same right through the match.Since it's a day game, dew won’t be a factor either. All signs point to another high-scoring contest."
