In what was the first Super Over of IPL 2025, the Delhi Capitals held their nerve to register a dramatic win over the Rajasthan Royals and became the first team to get 10 points this season. This match had everything—early fireworks, momentum shifts, heartbreaks, and a finish for the ages.

Rajasthan, chasing 189, started with a bang through Jaiswal and Samson, who raced to 61/0. But the tide turned when Sanju Samson walked off injured with a suspected side strain. Nitish Rana tried to take the innings deep with a crisp 51(28), but DC’s bowlers kept chipping away. The final over from Mitchell Starc was a masterclass, defending nine runs with two pinpoint yorkers and two run-outs.

Earlier, Axar Patel’s 34(14) and Stubbs' 34(18)* helped DC reach 188 after a middle-overs stutter. In reply, RR matched that exactly, taking it to the Super Over. But that’s when Stubbs smashed Sandeep Sharma for a match-winning six to seal the deal.

Sanju Samson | Rajasthan Royals Captain:
"The injury feels alright now. I just wasn’t ready to come back out and bat at the time, but we’ll assess it tomorrow and see how it goes.I thought we bowled really well overall. There were moments when they came at us hard, but credit to our bowlers—we showed great energy in the field. That target was definitely within reach considering the batting lineup we have. But full credit to Starcy—he’s one of the best in the world. The way he bowled the 20th over, he won them the game. The plan was simple: swing hard. We knew he’d come at us, and we had to respond with intent.Sandeep Sharma has been my go-to in the toughest phases—powerplay, the 18th, the 20th. He’s delivered time and again. Archer bowled well too. But Starc simply took the game away in those final moments.A win tonight could’ve really lifted spirits in the dressing room, but we need to keep moving forward."

Axar Patel | Delhi Capitals Captain:
"We started well, but I felt we could’ve shown a bit more intent through the middle. The pitch wasn’t easy—the batters mentioned that—and I told them to keep the intent high regardless. The ball was sticking slightly. Set batters found it manageable, but it was tough for new batters to come in and score freely. That’s why I called for the Strategic Time-Out, just to reset and remind everyone that boundaries wouldn’t come easy. We adjusted our plans and you could see the difference. When a new batter comes in on such a pitch, the pressure builds—whether to rotate strike or go for the big hits.Personally, I had a minor finger injury from the Champions Trophy earlier this season. But as captain, I always want to contribute—today, it all came together with both bat and ball.I was confident that if Starc could execute, he’d bring us back into the game—and he did just that. He nailed his yorkers in the 20th over and the Super Over. That’s why he’s a legend of the game. His mentality is top-class."

Mitchell Starc | Player of the Match
"For me, it’s all about backing my execution. If you’ve got a clear plan and stick to it, more often than not, things work out. A little bit of luck always helps too. It was a fantastic game, and I’m glad we came out on the right side of it.I’ve been around long enough that most people know what’s coming from me. But execution is key. You play that over 10 different times, and you might get 10 different results. Fortunately, tonight, I executed well enough to take it to a Super Over.I was surprised they sent out left-handers—it suited the ball tailing into them. I got a couple of lucky breaks, especially with the wide line. But we’ve got the batting depth to chase it down, and in the end, it was a solid win. It’s a great mix of youth and experience. Axar’s leading the side well. We’ve got guys like Faf, KL, and Tristan who’ve played plenty of cricket and bring a lot of calm. There’s real talent in the squad and a lot of fun being had. Success always helps, and tonight’s win should build great momentum going forward."

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for a blockbuster showdown tonight as the Delhi Capitals take on the Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the heart of the capital. This is match number 32 of the IPL 2025 season, and it's shaping up to be a cracker.

The Capitals have been in scintillating form this season, with their top order firing on all cylinders. Their bowlers have been equally impressive, keeping the opposition in check with disciplined performances. A win tonight could see them climb to the top of the points table, a testament to their consistency and hunger for success.

On the other hand, the Royals have had a turbulent journey so far, managing only two wins from their six outings. Their batting lineup has struggled to find rhythm, and their bowlers have been unable to apply sustained pressure. However, the Royals are known for their resilience, and a victory tonight could be the spark they need to turn their season around.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is known for its high-scoring encounters, and with both teams boasting explosive batsmen, we can expect a run-fest under the lights. The pitch will likely favour the batsmen, but the bowlers who can adapt quickly and execute their plans will be the ones to watch.

As the sun sets over Delhi, the stage is set for an enthralling contest between two teams with contrasting fortunes. Will the Capitals continue their march towards the playoffs, or will the Royals script a comeback for the ages? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – we're in for a thrilling ride tonight!

Pitch Report – Graeme Swann & Shane Watson

"We’re here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi—an gorgeous venue to play cricket. But let’s be honest, it’s not the biggest place for bowlers to enjoy! The boundaries are short—61 meters to my right, 62 to the left, and 72 straight down the ground. Not exactly a comforting sight for the bowlers—you can feel the pressure with these dimensions. The surface is a little dry again, similar to the previous match. There’s a good amount of grass cover on top, but it’s patchy in parts, which means it’ll offer something for the bowlers too. While batting first has worked well here—last season’s average winning first-innings score was around 230—this pitch still offers some grip for the spinners and some assistance for pacers who vary their pace. All in all, it’s a well-balanced pitch. Batters will fancy their chances, especially with the small boundaries, but bowlers who hit the right areas and mix things up will get rewards too. Given the setup, we’re in for a great contest!"
