Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways with a composed five-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium, snapping a five-match losing streak and reigniting their IPL 2025 campaign. Chasing 167, CSK’s revamped opening pair of Shaik Rasheed and Rachin Ravindra provided a much-needed solid start, adding 52 runs in the Powerplay. While Rasheed impressed on debut with a fluent 27, Ravindra top-scored with 37, showing early aggression.A middle-overs slowdown, triggered by the spin trio of Ravi Bishnoi, Aiden Markram, and Digvesh Singh, put CSK under pressure, reducing them to 111/5. However, Shivam Dube (43* off 37) and MS Dhoni (26* off 11) steadied the ship and expertly finished the chase.Earlier, Rishabh Pant anchored the LSG innings with a well-crafted 63 off 49. Cameos from Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, and Abdul Samad pushed LSG to 166/7. CSK’s bowling unit, led by Ravindra Jadeja (2/24) and Matheesha Pathirana (2/45), maintained control despite occasional bursts of momentum from LSG.With this result, CSK not only claim two points but also rebuild momentum heading into the second half of the season.

Rishabh Pant | LSG Captain:
"We feel we were about 10–15 runs short today. We kept losing wickets at key moments—every time we had some momentum, we lost a wicket and couldn’t build a strong partnership. The wicket was decent to bat on, though slightly tricky at times. I still feel we could’ve added 10 more runs to the total.
I’m feeling better with each game. Sometimes, even when you're hitting the ball well, it just doesn’t come off. For me, it’s about finding rhythm and taking things one game at a time.We had time to think about the options. The plan was to take it deep, but it just didn’t go our way in the end.Our powerplay bowling has been a bit of a concern—something we’re looking to sort out as the tournament progresses. But credit to the bowlers, they pulled things back really well in the middle overs. As a team, we’re focused on staying positive and continuing to improve with each game."

MS Dhoni | CSK Captain & Player of the Match:
"It’s always good to win—especially in a tournament like this. Things haven’t quite gone our way lately, but a win like this gives us a lot of confidence. It was a tough game, but I’m glad we ended up on the winning side.In the powerplay, we struggled a bit to find rhythm with the ball. But the middle overs were solid, and we finished strongly at the death. That’s something we’ve been able to do well—bounce back even when the opposition gets a good start, and pull things back to keep them to a par score. We haven’t been getting the kind of starts we’re looking for as a batting unit, and the frequent fall of wickets has been concerning. One factor could be the nature of the Chennai pitches—they’ve been a bit on the slower side. Interestingly, our batting performances have been better away from home. As a group, it’s important that we keep expressing ourselves. At the moment, our bowling unit is doing better than our batting. We’ve made a few changes to the attack—we needed bowlers who could deliver in the powerplay. Earlier, we were putting too much pressure on Ash, having him bowl two overs up front. This new setup gives us more balance, and I believe this attack is more effective overall. That said, the batting still needs improvement. We're losing wickets at crucial times, so we need someone to play the anchoring role. We’ve trained for that, and it’s important for everyone to execute their roles consistently.I thought he batted really well today. He’s been with us for a while—last year he showed promise, and this season he’s looked very good in the nets. What sets him apart is that he plays authentic cricket shots—he doesn’t just slog. He has the potential to dominate in a classy way.Honestly, even I was surprised when I got the award! I thought Noor bowled brilliantly today. Our new-ball bowlers also did a fantastic job. But I’ll take it with a smile."

The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown as Lucknow Super Giants host Chennai Super Kings in a battle of contrasting campaigns. LSG, brimming with confidence, sit comfortably in the top four with four wins from six games. Their success has been built on team depth and individual brilliance—Nicholas Pooran's five fifties in six matches underline their batting firepower, while Shardul Thakur has stepped up with the ball, becoming the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker.

In stark contrast, CSK are grappling with one of their most forgettable seasons. Just one win in six matches and a faltering batting unit—highlighted by Rachin Ravindra's modest 149-run tally—have left them languishing at the bottom. The return of MS Dhoni to captaincy hasn't reversed their fortunes, and despite Noor Ahmad’s Purple Cap-worthy performance (12 wickets), their famed spin attack has largely underwhelmed.

LSG have won three of their last five encounters against CSK and will look to extend that dominance on home turf. With both pride and playoff hopes on the line for CSK, and LSG eyeing consolidation, expect fireworks in this must-watch clash between the Super Giants and the Super Kings.

Pitch Report | Daren Ganga & Michael Clarke:
"The Ekana Stadium lights up tonight to host Match 30—a crucial contest for both sides. CSK will be desperate to snap their five-match losing streak. We’re on Pitch Number 5 today, positioned right in the center of the square. The boundary dimensions are fairly balanced—66 meters on either side and 73 meters straight down the ground. Behind the stumps, it's slightly shorter at 59 meters, something the batters will definitely keep in mind. The curator tells us this is a hybrid pitch—about 70% black soil and 30% red. Historically, teams haven’t crossed the 200-run mark too often here. The wicket looks promising, but I suspect it might play a little two-paced—that’s probably due to the blend of black and red soil. You can see some inconsistencies in the surface, and that could make strokeplay a bit tricky. It reminds me a bit of the Hyderabad wicket—there are some grass patches here as well. As the game progresses, pace variations from the fast bowlers will be key. Slower balls and cutters could be very effective today. With conditions like these, both teams will be aiming to adapt quickly and grab those all-important two points."
