At the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants put on a complete show to outclass Gujarat Titans by six wickets and extend their winning streak to three. Chasing 181, the hosts were cool and calculated, with Aiden Markram’s classy 58 and Nicholas Pooran’s brutal 61 off 34 powering them past the finish line. Despite GT's late breakthroughs, Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad held their nerve, finishing the game with poise under pressure.
Earlier, Gujarat looked set for a 200-plus total as Gill and Sudharsan stitched a 120-run opening stand, both notching fifties. But Avesh Khan’s breakthrough of Gill shifted the tide. LSG’s bowlers, led by Ravi Bishnoi (2/36) and Shardul Thakur (2/34), applied the brakes, with GT scoring just 60 in the last eight overs to end on 180/6.
In reply, Aiden Markram's elegant 58 set the foundation, but it was Nicholas Pooran’s sensational 61 off 34 balls—an innings laced with seven towering sixes—that sealed the game for the hosts. Ayush Badoni’s calm cameo (28 off 20)* provided the finishing touches as LSG cruised home with three balls to spare.
Shubman Gill | Gujarat Titans Captain
"The wicket wasn't easy to score on from the start. Our plan was to take it to 18 overs, have someone bat through 50–60 balls once set, and aim for a total around 200–220.Losing back-to-back wickets really set us back. It was tough for any batter to get going initially, with the ball stopping a bit. Our strike rotation in the middle overs wasn’t up to the mark, and that’s something we need to improve. We were always aiming for wickets — that was the mindset. Yes, we were behind, but we believed that if we could pick 2–3 quick wickets, we could still push the game deep. And we did just that. We got breakthroughs after the 10th over, but the ball didn’t hold up as much as we expected in the end, especially with some dew coming in during the final phase.Still, fighting till the end was a good sign. That’s what we discussed during the second timeout — to stretch it as deep as we could. Thank you, everyone."
Rishabh Pant | Lucknow Super Giants Captain
"Definitely feeling happy. We’re sticking to the process, backing each other’s abilities, and focusing on one match at a time. The plan was to bowl yorkers and attack the stumps — the bowlers executed that brilliantly, which was great to see as captain. To be honest, I wasn’t too pleased with how things started, but it’s a T20 game — pressure moments are part of it. The way the boys pulled it back was fantastic. With each game, I’m feeling more confident. Marsh gave me a chance today, and I felt that spending more time at the crease would help me. It's about finding that rhythm. At the end of the day, it’s a team game — we all want to contribute and help the team win.One thing’s for sure — we’re lucky to have Nicholas Pooran on our side. He’s been outstanding with the bat. It’s definitely better to have him in your team than to bowl to him!"
Aiden Markram | Player of the Match
"Yeah, definitely a slow surface. You want to start the tournament strong. My role has slightly changed, so it's been about adapting. The first few games didn’t go my way, but I’m grateful that things have improved in the last couple of knocks. It’s probably a mix of things — tight schedules and ever-changing conditions. Some players can clear the ropes at will; that might not be my main strength, so I just try to stick to what works for me.Early in the tournament, I felt I had to change my game to match others in terms of hitting boundaries. But I realized it's better to play to your strengths if it helps the team.Conditions did shift. Under the hot sun, it was slow and tricky, but under lights, it played better. If we play another day game, we’ll keep that in mind. Building partnerships will be key, especially since batting gets easier later on."
The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow will host a high-stakes afternoon clash as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 26 of the TATA IPL 2025. With both teams in solid form, this daytime encounter promises to be a compelling watch.
Gujarat Titans, currently sitting at the top of the points table, are riding a wave of momentum. After a narrow defeat to Punjab Kings in their opener, they’ve bounced back emphatically with four consecutive wins. Their batting unit is firing on all cylinders — Jos Buttler has been providing brisk starts, while Sai Sudharsan has anchored the middle order with remarkable consistency. The real X-factor for GT, though, has been R Sai Kishore. The left-arm spinner has been exceptional, tying up batters with tight lines and picking up crucial wickets, particularly through the middle overs.
Lucknow Super Giants, placed sixth, have three wins from five matches. Nicholas Pooran has been in stellar form with the bat, finishing games with authority. Support from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram has strengthened the middle order, giving LSG a well-rounded batting unit. With the match being played in familiar home conditions, LSG will look to bring their A-game and challenge Gujarat’s winning streak.
The pitch at Ekana is expected to assist slower bowlers, making this a tactical battle between two smartly built sides. A lot will depend on how both teams adapt during the afternoon heat and handle the slow, gripping surface.
Pitch Report | Shane Watson & Murali Kartik
“We’re on Pitch No. 6 today, which has already seen runs galore. The black soil base and those big square boundaries—63m one side, 70m the other—should favor batters. Strangely enough, bowlers haven’t really enjoyed the help they might expect from such dimensions. It’s a good-looking strip with a healthy grass cover and a bit of shine. In the previous outing, LSG put up 203 here. The surface has enough bounce to allow pacers to dig it in short and extract something with change-ups. Five of the ten wickets last time came off balls that hit the deck.“This could be another high-scoring afternoon. With teams now finding success defending totals, the smart call might just be to win the toss and bat first.”
