In a thrilling IPL showdown at Chepauk, LSG achieved an incredible feat, clinching a sensational victory over CSK, marking their second win against them this season. Marcus Stoinis emerged as the hero of the night, delivering a monumental innings that defied expectations. LSG won the toss and elected to field here at Chepauk considering the dew factor. CSK had a mixed start with Ajinkya Rahane falling early. Ruturaj Gaikwad, alongside Daryl Mitchell, steadied the innings. Despite Mitchell's early departure, Gaikwad's impressive knock of 108 not out and Shivam Dube's explosive 66 off 27 balls propelled CSK to 210. In the second innings, despite a shaky start with early losses, including Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul, LSG found themselves under pressure with a hefty target of 211. The game's pace changed dramatically as Stoinis, paired first with Nicholas Pooran and then Deepak Hooda, shifted gears dramatically. Stoinis not only scored a staggering 124 from 63 deliveries, but his innings also included a high-octane final over where he secured the win with three balls to spare.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK Captain: "Tough to accept, but good game of cricket. LSG played well. We had the game in control till 14 overs, but Stoinis played a great innings. Dew played a part and it took our spinners out of the game. Otherwise, we could have controlled the game better and taken it deeper. But these are parts of the game. Jaddu is batting at number 4 since we lost the second wicket within the powerplay. I thought our target wasn’t enough."

KL Rahul, LSG Captain: "Very special. It was very special to pull it off from where we were before. Different conditions here. I think they started off really well and put us under pressure. 170-180 would’ve been a great total here but they batted really well. Full credit to Stoinis. It was not just power hitting, it was very clever batting. You need to go harder in the powerplay and the impact player rule also gives you a bit more depth. There’s no set plan, apart from the openers, everyone else is ready to go out whenever we feel it's right."

Marcus Stoinis is the Player of the Match

Marcus Stoinis: "There were some bowlers we wanted to target and some bowlers we wanted to be more cautious against. There was a phase where I wasn’t able to hit the boundaries so it was great Pooran could come in and take the pressure off. Lots of ebbs and flows, just tried to keep it in control. I do think T20 cricket is changing, the impact player role and how teams are taking on the bowlers. On the playing front, I’d like to play and contribute."

Battle of Bigs To Watch Out For:

Pitch Report:

Ian Bishop and Matthew Hayden:

"The afternoon was quite hot, but it's starting to cool off now. To the right, the distance measures about 66 meters, and to the left, it's just a meter more. The ground extends to 78 meters directly ahead. This pitch seems to present different conditions on each half. Near us, there are patches of grass, while the opposite end boasts a uniform grass cover. It's not likely to be a high-scoring pitch of 200 runs. Expect some early dew today, similar to the conditions in the KKR match. Spinners will thrive on this surface, and fast bowlers will need to slow their pace and use a lot of off cutters."

Toss:

KL Rahul from LSG calls right at the toss and will bowl first!

KL Rahul, LSG Skipper: "We opt to bowl first. There is a bit of dew and that will play an impact. The wicket is a bit slow and hopefully, we can put their batters under pressure. We played well, but we have left the result back in Lucknow. We know how challenging Chennai is, everyone will be cheering for them. We don't have any changes."

Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK Skipper: "I lost seven tosses in a row I think and have to work on that. There will be some dew later on, but you never know how the wicket will surprise you. You just need to go out there and express yourself. Just attack when the ball is in the arc. Hoping to set the foundation early on. Daryl comes in for Rachin. Pretty good to have three home games. However, it doesn't matter if you are batting first or bowling first, you need to play good cricket here to win."
