The Mullanpur stadium witnessed a dramatic comeback as Gujarat Titans snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Punjab Kings. Chasing a below-par total of 143 runs, GT emerged triumphant by 3 wickets with 5 balls to spare, thanks to a late onslaught by the swashbuckling Rahul Tewatia. Opting to bat first, Punjab Kings got off to a promising start with openers Prabhsimran Singh and Sam Curran stitching together a 52-run partnership. However, their batting woes resurfaced as wickets fell in quick succession. The middle order failed to capitalize, leaving the team reeling at 99/7 after 16 overs. A late cameo from Harpreet Brar (29 runs off 12 balls) provided a much-needed boost, taking Punjab past the 140-run mark. The innings eventually folded for a meager 142 runs, with Sai Kishore wreaking havoc for Gujarat Titans, claiming a four-wicket haul. Mohit Sharma and Noor Ahmad chipped in with two wickets each, while Rashid Khan picked up one. Gujarat's chase began on a shaky note as they lost their prolific wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha early on. However, the young guns Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan displayed maturity, consolidating the innings with a 40-run partnership. Just as GT seemed to be in control, Liam Livingstone rattled their batting order, dismissing the dangerous David Miller and the in-form Gill. With the score reading 89/4 and victory slipping away, Rahul Tewatia rose to the occasion. He played a blistering knock of 36 runs off just 18 balls, peppering the boundaries with his trademark sixes. His aggressive batting reignited Gujarat's hopes and put the pressure back on Punjab. Despite losing a couple of late wickets, GT secured a thrilling victory with 5 balls remaining, thanks to Tewatia's heroics.
Sam Curran Skipper: "I believe we fell short by about 10-15 runs. The bowlers put in a remarkable effort, displaying exceptional commitment and determination, but it wasn't quite sufficient. The Afghanistan spinners are world-class bowlers and Sai Kishore bowled really well, credit to them. Despite this being the third match on this pitch, achieving anything above 160 would have been considered par. Prabhsimran's strong performance in the powerplay was noteworthy, but unfortunately, we lost momentum with a cluster of wickets thereafter. Moving forward, we understand the importance of winning every upcoming game."
Shubman Gill Skipper: "We would have preferred to close out the match a bit earlier, but securing those two points is always satisfying. Taking on the role of captaincy has been a thrilling experience for me, although there have been some challenges, particularly with the over-rate. When I'm batting, my focus is solely on playing my natural game without letting the captaincy responsibilities distract me. Regarding the incident with Livingstone, the decision I made to get out would have been the same whether I was captaining or not, and it wasn't influenced by any previous exchange."
Sai Kishore, Player of the Match :
"Just trying to give my 120% for the team, playing after 20-25 days, so just wanted to go there, enjoy myself and give my everything. Under Ashish Nehra's guidance, we've cultivated an environment where we can play fearlessly, irrespective of the outcome. He encouraged me to enjoy the game and express myself freely, which boosted my confidence. I sensed the conditions well and relied on change of pace, which proved effective. It was a collective effort from everyone, with Rahul delivering another stellar performance and Rashid and Noor bowling superbly. It feels great to contribute to such a cohesive team effort."
The stage is set for a riveting IPL clash in Mullanpur, where Punjab Kings face off against Gujarat Titans
. Hovering near the bottom, Punjab is desperate to climb up the ranks. They've been hit hard by injuries, notably missing Shikhar Dhawan. Yet, they've seen a glimmer of hope in the form of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma, whose heroics have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat earlier this season against Gujarat. Will they deliver another spectacular performance?
Gujarat Titans, just a spot above Punjab, haven't fared much better. Despite Shubman Gill’s steady contributions, the team's overall inconsistency is glaring. However, their bowlers, led by the adept Rashid Khan, have kept them in games, even though a recent blowout loss to Delhi Capitals rattled them.
Historically, games between these two have favored the chasers, often ending in dramatic last-over finishes. Punjab will surely look to repeat their earlier thrilling win against Gujarat in hopes of reviving their campaign.
Key players to watch include Punjab’s middle-order bats Shashank and Ashutosh, and their pacer Arshdeep Singh, who needs to snag more wickets. For Gujarat, the spotlight is on Gill for runs and Rashid Khan for tight overs.
Expect a run fest at this high-scoring venue as both teams battle it out this Sunday, each eager to assert dominance and turn their fortunes around in the league.

PITCH REPORT :
Badree: "Here we are at the new PCA Stadium in Mullanpur for PBKS vs GT. The dimensions today: 70m leg side, 63m off side, and 72m down the ground. Bowlers will favor the bigger side. All four matches here went to the final over, thrilling stuff. Seamers have taken 47 wickets, spinners just 9."
Katich: "The pitch offers pace, bounce, and swing for pacers early on, making it tough to score in the first 10 overs. MI's Sharma and Yadav showed how to build innings and accelerate later, reaching 192, the par score. Despite a 174 average first innings, today's surface looks better. PBKS' top order struggles reflect in their lower scores. Expect a close game, as 3 out of 4 clashes between these teams have gone to the wire."
TOSS UPDATE: WON THE TOSS AND ELECTED TO BAT FIRST
Sam Curran Skipper: "We are going to bat first. Looking to put some good runs on the board. Our record here has not been the best. This is the third time we are using this pitch. We will try to put pressure on the Gujarat Titans' bowling attack. That's the nature of IPL. It's such a big tournament; on a given day, anyone can win against any side. Absolutely. We know if we turn up with the right plans and attitude, we can win. It's about overseas players taking more responsibility and helping the Indian players. Shikhar Dhawan is still not playing. We have the same team as the last game."
Shubman Gill Skipper: "I was looking to bowl first. Looks like it's the same wicket as the last match (PBKS vs MI). Every game is important from now on. We've been inconsistent so far. We are keen to put on our best performances. We would look to keep them under 170. Just one change - Azmatullah Omarzai replaces Spencer Johnson (niggle)."
