PBKS- 48/2 (9.6 rpo, 4x4, 2x6)  || RCB- 60/2 (13.3 rpo, 7x4, 3x6)

Winning the toss and electing to field first proved advantageous for RCB as they successfully stifled the Kings, limiting them to 40 in the initial powerplay and continually taking wickets at crucial junctures. Despite promising starts from the PBKS lineup, a substantial innings eluded them. Yash Dayal's formidable powerplay overs, coupled with Siraj's adept run rate management, saw the duo surrender a mere 49 runs across their combined 8 overs while claiming three vital wickets. Shashank Singh's spirited charge towards the end propelled PBKS to a commendable 176.

RCB's chase witnessed early setbacks, losing two wickets early on, yet Kohli, true to his moniker 'King Kohli,' kept the scoreboard ticking, crafting a masterful 77 off 49 balls. However, his dismissal by Harshal Patel set the stage for a thrilling climax, with RCB needing 47 off the final 24 balls. It was then that DK stepped up, epitomizing the adage "cometh the hour, cometh the man," alongside Mahipal Lomror, who unleashed a flurry of shots. Lomror's rapid 17 off 8 and DK's explosive 28 at an astounding strike rate of 280 ushered RCB to victory with four balls to spare, illustrating the dynamic, unpredictable nature of cricket where heroes emerge in the face of adversity.

Shikhar Dhawan, Skipper: "  It was a decent game, we came back and again lost it. We scored 10-15 runs less, in the powerplay as I played a bit slow. Those 10-15 runs cost us and the dropped catch did not help either.  Virat scored 70-odd runs after we dropped a catch of a class player like him, we paid the price. If we had taken that catch, the momentum would have come from the second ball. But we lost the momentum over there and then we paid the price for that."

Faf du Plessis, RCB Skipper: Talking about the calmness "On the outside, not as much on the inside. Early in the competition you want to make sure you get over the line. Felt we were in the position to do that sooner. With the new rule, we knew we had Mahipal coming in - has a lot of power. Now with the extra batter, you feel like even 14-15 rpo is gettable. Pleased DK. I said the other night that it is really important for him to get his IPL going with confidence."

Virat Kohli is the Player of the Match

Virat Kohli: " People talk about a lot of other things when you play sport - achievement, stats, numbers. But when you look back it's the memories you create. The love, appreciation and backing I've received has been amazing. I try to give the team a blazing start, but if wickets fall you have to assess. Wasn't the usual flat pitch. Disappointed I couldn't finish the game. Was in the slot but sliced it to a deep point. They know I play the cover drive well, so they're not going to allow me to hit gaps. You have to come up with a game plan here and there. I know my name is now attached to just promoting the game in different parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket. I've still got it I guess."

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 gears up for its sixth game at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the stakes are high for the Royal Challengers Bangalore , led by Faf du Plessis, who is keen to overturn their recent misfortune. In stark contrast, the Punjab Kings stride into the fray buoyed by an assertive victory, showcasing their formidable form early in the tournament.

In their opening match, RCB’s promising start was swiftly undone by a tactical masterclass from 'Fizz', whose devastating spell left RCB floundering at a precarious 78/5 by the 12th over. Despite the dire straits, Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat valiantly spearheaded a counter-attack, elevating their team to a respectable 173/6. Their efforts painted a picture of resilience, yet the inability of RCB's bowlers to defend this total, resulting in a 6-wicket loss, underscored a pressing need for strategic recalibrations.

Conversely, the have carved a narrative of confidence and aggression right from the outset. With a blend of disciplined bowling led by Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel, each clinching two wickets, and dynamic batting performances from Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone, they notched up a convincing victory against the Delhi Capitals. This win not only set a robust tone for their campaign but also showcased their capacity to execute their plans with precision.

PITCH REPORT:

Deep Dasgupta and Simon Katich "First of three back-to-back home games for RCB as they take on the Kings from Punjab. This has been a high-scoring ground because of the ground dimensions and the centre pitch is being used; 60 meters on either side and straight down the ground is 70 meters. It certainly does look like a high-scoring Chinnaswamy pitch. The pitch is rock hard, there's a bit of grass on it and what we know about last year's IPL is the average first innings score is 196. The ball is going to fly everywhere. The trend in this IPL so far has been the home team winning. Can the RCB get off the mark tonight in front of their adoring fans? There are a few cracks but they look superficial and it also looks patchy with patches of grass. Maybe a little bit two-paced because it is dry where there are cracks but under lights you expect the ball to come on to the bat".

TOSS:

has won the toss and have elected to   first

Faf du Plesis, Skipper: "We are going to have a bowl. It looks like a pretty good wicket but also because of the way our team is set up. The boys are excited for the season. In any game of cricket, you can't have clusters of wickets and we have to improve on that. Same team and one or two options on changing the substitutions."

Shikhar Dhawan, Skipper: " We would have bowled first. But looking forward to batting first now. We did a lot of right things in the first game and that's why we ended up on the winning side. We have to keep improving each game. Same team."
