Death Overs (16-20 Overs) :-
CSK- 50/3 (10.0 rpo, 2x4, 3x6) || DC- 49/2 (9.8 rpo, 5x4, 1x6)
Another win for at their fortress.
spinners kept things tight and kept chipping with wickets until the 13th over when the run rate was just 6.79 r.p.o. Dube and Rayudu smashed 23 runs in the 14th over from Lalit Yadav which tilted the momentum in CSK's favour. A fine cameo of 20 from 9 balls from the World's best Finisher MSD made sure CSK get to a fighting total of 167 on a slow track at Chepauk. In response, DC had a dismal start losing 3 wickets in the powerplay even before spinners came to operate. Manish Pandey and Rilee Roussouw gathered 59 runs from 59 balls but the asking rate just kept increasing as CSK spinners gave nothing away. DC was able to compile only 44 in the middle overs and there was very little scope left to stage a comeback. In the end, it was a very comfortable victory for CSK by 27 runs.
David Warner, Skipper: " Losing three wickets in the powerplay is not acceptable. We lost a wicket in the 1st over which has been happening frequently. We understand that our opening combination is crucial but has failed to fire. We lost a wicket to a run-out which did not help the cause either. We threw wickets away not that the bowlers bowled too well. Put too much pressure on ourselves in chasing down a gettable total. To sum it up, we needed a better powerplay. We couldn't rotate the strike in the middle".
MSD, Skipper: " It turned more in the second half. Our spinners use a lot more seam than some of the other bowlers. We did not know what's a par score. That's why I wanted the bowlers to bowl their best deliveries but not look for wickets every delivery. That's when you start not bowling well. I felt 166-170 was a good score. But as a batting unit, we could have done better. The good thing is Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja got a chance to spend time in the middle. As we get closer to the last phase of the tournament, it's important that everybody has a few deliveries under their belt. We need to be happy with our batting."
Ravindra Jadeja is Player of the Match
Ravindra Jadeja : " : Its a beautiful sight for a Spinner when the ball is gripping, turning and holding in the wicket. We practice here, we know the ideal length and pace to bowl at. The visiting team needs time to adapt to the conditions. I am just happy that the team is doing well."
The showdown between and
will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The hosts are sitting nicely on the second position with 6 wins out of their 11 matches. MSD and Co have been consistent and all their departments are firing. Devon Conway has scored 458 runs so far and is in the race for the orange cap while his partner Ruturaj Gaikwad has complimented him well from the other end. The middle order looks formidable in the presence of Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane while Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali add depth to both bowling and batting. CSK would be happy with the way Tushar Deshpande has been performing, the pacer has scalped 19 wickets and is right on top of the highest wicket-takers list. Pathirana is another bowler that has impressed everyone with the way he has gone about his business at the death. A confident looking CSK would be looking to get one step closer to securing a berth in the playoffs against a team that is at the last spot on the points table. The points table fails to tell the complete story as DC after straight losses have come back winning 4 out of their last 5 games. DC went past RCB chasing down a target of 182 runs in just 16.4 overs. Phil Salt's 87 runs off 45 deliveries was the highlight of the match. DC's Top Four of Skipper David Warner, Phil Salt. Mitchell Marsh and Rilee Roussouw look in good form. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel would be expected to come good at Chepauk where the surface has assistance for spin. Will DC win and live another day or will CSK once again come good at their fortress?
Ground Dimensions :
PITCH REPORT:
Matthew Hayden and Simon Doull:: " "Gorgeous evening in Chennai. The square boundaries are 61 meters and 68 meters and it is 75 meters straight down the ground. As usual here in Chennai, the pitch is nice and dry, it's very hard but a little hollow and it just begs the question of why there are so many runs that we are actually seeing here at Chepauk this year. will it turn? I think it will.

WINS THE TOSS AND ELECTS TO
FIRST
MSD, Skipper: " We will bat. We have played a few matches on this pitch. There are chances that this wicket will slow down. We try to keep it simple and want to keep reiterating the same thing. Try to execute your plans."
David Warner, Skipper: " Looks a bit dry. The boys have come out with the right attitude. We had to work on our powerplay batting and would look to do that today as well. Try and execute on this wicket as much as you can".
