TATA IPL 2025 Match 45, MI vs LSG - Match Report

Match 45 saw Mumbai Indians (MI) register their fifth win in a row to jump three spots to occupy the second position on the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 points table with a convincing 54-run victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

MI were off to a great start with the openers, Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma hitting a few quick boundaries. Rohit smashed two consecutive sixes off Mayank Yadav’s bowling before falling prey to a slower short delivery. However, Rickelton continued the momentum, hitting five boundaries and four sixes during his innings. He finally got dismissed after scoring 58 runs off 32 balls off Digvesh Rathi’s bowling. Will Jacks followed soon after, but not before he had managed to hit three boundaries and a six before Prince Yadav cleaned him up for 29.

Suryakumar Yadav then took the responsibility on his shoulders and hit a couple of fours and a six off Ravi Bishnoi’s final over. Despite a costly over, Bishnoi managed to end his spell with Tilak Varma’s wicket. When Mayank Yadav bowled MI skipper Hardik Pandya for 5 runs, it looked like the momentum could shift towards LSG.

However, Naman Dhir joined Suryakumar Yadav in the middle, who managed to find a couple of consecutive boundaries despite some early hiccups. Suryakumar sent one into the stands to complete his half-century before holing out the very next ball to Mitchell Marsh at extra cover for 54 off 28; his innings also saw him unlock a new milestone of 4000 IPL runs.

Corbin Bosch played some beautiful shots in the penultimate over and was off to a great start in his TATA Indian Premier League 2025 debut. He threw away his wicket, playing a shot straight into Nicholas Pooran’s hands at long on for 20.

Naman Dhir scored 25 off 11 balls, including two fours and as many sixes. He finished MI’s innings with a scoop shot for a six. Mumbai Indians put up a mammoth total of 215/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

In pursuit of 216, Aiden Markram started the innings with a couple of boundaries in the first over before falling prey to the impact substitute, Jasprit Bumrah’s back-of-the-length delivery.

After a shaky and slow start, Nicholas Pooran launched three consecutive shots into the stands in the final over of the powerplay. Deepak Chahar conceded 20 runs off his third over, with LSG recovering and standing at 60/1.

Will Jacks spun the game around in favour of the five-time champions with two wickets in three balls. He dismissed Nicholas Pooran for 27 and sent the out-of-form LSG skipper Rishabh Pant back to the dugout in two balls.

Ayush Badoni and Mitchell Marsh looked to bring the game back on track for Lucknow Super Giants. They scored 10 runs off Hardik Pandya’s first over, and Karn Sharma conceded 20 runs off his second over. LSG were 103/3 after 10 overs.

Mitchell Marsh’s fine knock came to an end at 34 runs after he succumbed to a slow and short ball in the 12th over off Trent Boult’s bowling. David Miller scored three boundaries in the next couple of overs to keep Lucknow Super Giants’ hopes alive.

It all came to a head when Trent Boult dismissed Ayush Badoni for 35 off 22 balls as the youngster sliced the ball towards backward point. Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets in a single over to end LSG’s chances of winning the match. He removed David Miller, Abdul Samad, and Avesh Kumar in a span of five balls to leave LSG struggling at 142/8 after the 16th over.
