Far from a finished product, Kamran Khan – the son of a woodcutter – was picked out of obscurity and unleashed on the big stage of the IPL. This Azamgarh-born cricketer – nicknamed “Tornado” by the then Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne – did not disappoint as he picked up three wickets, including that of Sourav Ganguly, in just his second match. After questions were asked about the legality of his action, Kamran underwent remedial work at the National Cricket Academy and Cricket Australia’s Centre of Excellence. He is now with the Pune Warriors, who will be hoping he can continue to bowl quick and dish out those toe-crushing yorkers that once caught the eye of RR’s Director of Coaching, Darren Berry.
