A left-arm medium pacer from Rae Bareli, a small city in Uttar Pradesh, Singh first made headlines after an impressive performance in the 2004 ICC U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh. Consistent performances thereafter for his state team and for Central Zone resulted in a call-up to the Indian team in 2005. A bowler who can get the ball to move both ways, RP Singh made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2006 and even went on to win the Man-of-the-Match award. Injuries, loss of form and the rapid rise of several other medium-pacers on the domestic circuit have caused him to fall out of custom with the national selectors. The Purple Cap winner (presented to the leading wicket-taker in the league round of every IPL season) in IPL 2009, RP Singh was a consistent performer for the Deccan Chargers. He was signed by the Mumbai Indians at the IPL Player Auction 2012 and released ahead of the 2013 auction, where RCB bought him for USD 400,000.
