A leg-spinner from Aligarh, Piyush Chawla first came to the fore when he got past the defense of Sachin Tendulkar with a googly in a Challenger Series match several years ago. In his early days, Chawla was an orthodox leg-spinner. However, Chawla bowls much flatter these days and ends up bowling quite a few long hops in the process. A lower-order batsman, Chawla scores handy runs consistently. One of his most recent impressive performances came in the Corporate Trophy here he claimed six for 32 to help Chemplast lift the title in 2012-13.
