Profile
| Birth Date | 31 December 1984 |
| IPL debut | 2009 |
Predominantly a left-arm orthodox spinner, Merwe also happens to be a great fielder and a hard-hitting lower-order batsman. He has also kept wickets for South Africa in a World Cup as Under-19s player. In his second season of first-class cricket, van der Merwe switched teams and made headlines almost immediately. He was named the Player of the Year, MTN Domestic Championship Player of the Year, Standard Bank Pro20 Series Player of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year for the Titans for his all-round performance. He also helped his team win the MTN Domestic Championship and the Standard Bank Pro20 Series. He was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2009, and impressed with his quick arm spin bowling and powerful batting. He was signed by the Delhi Daredevils at the IPL Player Auction 2011. He has scored two-thirds of his runs through boundaries and has a healthy strike-rate in Twenty20 cricket.
