IPL is all about entertainment and action: Raja
15th May 2008
Former Pakistani cricketer Rameez Raja who is now a member of the DLF Indian Premier League's commentary panel feels that the tournament is "all about entertainment and action". Raja has been relishing his participation in the League so far.
"It has been a great experience. From a commentator's point of view, you don't have to create much as the IPL is all about entertainment and action. So in that regard, it has been a pleasure," Raja stated while speaking to one of our reporters.
Raja does not believe that the compressed format of the game will undermine the importance of other versions though he is not completely hopeful about the one-day format.
"Every format has got its own place in cricket. Let's hope it does not take over 50-over cricket," he said.
Raja does not have any regrets about not playing the new version.
"I would have been chosen the 12th man every time because this would have been beyond me," he added.
Raja is of the opinion that the Indian team's victorious campaign in the first World Twenty20 has had an impetus on the inaugural edition of the League.
"This is the first edition of the IPL. I am sure there will be more innovations, more players included in the next chapter," he added.
Commenting on the response that the tournament is getting in Pakistan, Raja said, "People back home are really excited but they also want the cricketers really to perform. I think most Pakistani cricketers have not really performed to their ability."
While speaking about his long stint as a cricket commentator Raja expressed satisfaction over the opportunity to put in for the sport from a different angle.
"It is much easier actually. But it is also great that (one is) contributing at least to the game you love playing. In that regard I am really satisfied," he added.
