Strong Winds and Rain at Eden Gardens
Match abandoned without a ball bowled
CAB Media Release
Kolkata, 24 April 2012
Strong winds and rain fell upon Eden Gardens shortly before the scheduled start of the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers.
The ground staff immediately covered the field but the strength of the rain flooded the playing area.
Some small temporary structures were blown forward by the storm and fell onto the chairs on the grandstand area below. Stadium staff, emergency services and some spectators responded quickly and worked to lift the structure, freeing a few spectators who had been caught below.
Stadium Medical Services confirmed that three people received minor injuries, and were taken as a precaution to the Calcutta Medical Research Institute. All three have been discharged after thorough medical examination.
Mr. Biswarup Dey – Hon.Jt. Secretary Cricket Association of Bengal.
